NEW DELHI: Flight and train services were disrupted in India’s capital New Delhi for the second day running on Monday, due to dense fog and cold weather in the northern part of the country.

On Sunday, over 100 flights in Delhi experienced delays, but there were intermittent flight operations on Monday morning, as per an unnamed airport official. Flightradar24, an aviation website, reported that at least 168 flights departing from Delhi were delayed, and 56 flights were cancelled on Monday morning.

Eighteen trains bound for Delhi from various regions were running behind schedule due to the thick fog, according to news agency ANI, citing a railway document.

The Indian weather office forecasted dense fog and a cold wave in New Delhi for Monday and anticipated ‘very dense fog’ on Tuesday, with a minimum temperature of 4 degrees Celsius (39.2 Fahrenheit).

Indira Gandhi International Airport in the city was non-operational from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday due to dense fog, causing significant delays nationwide and leading to frustrated passengers.

Social media and news outlets featured images and videos of irate passengers arguing with airport staff in New Delhi and other airports. One video even showed a passenger punching a pilot who announced a delayed flight.
