SRINAGAR: Detained leader of the Jammu Kashmir Tehreek-e-Fikr o Ateqad (Movement of Thought and Faith), Maulana Sarjan Barkati, on Saturday criticized Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, alleging it was a deceptive move aimed at hoodwinking the international community.

Barkati described the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIJOK) as an open prison in the world where there are over one million Indian occupied forces.

He condemned the ceremony held under the watch of these occupying forces, stating it was an attempt to create a false impression of normalcy in the region.

Regarding yoga, Barkati said its conflict with Islamic teachings and urged Kashmiri Muslims to refrain from practicing it. He advised parents to oppose what he termed as a cultural and religious invasion in schools and colleges.

Highlighting the plight of the Kashmiri people, Barkati pointed out the imprisonment of numerous Hurriyet leaders and youth, along with ongoing illegal arrests. He also mentioned the campaign to confiscate and destroy properties, denying Kashmiris their right to self-determination.

Barkati criticized Indian troops for their actions, including the destruction of Kashmiri homes during violent operations.

He reiterated the Kashmiri people’s unwavering stance on their birthright and right to self-determination, urging the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in resolving the Kashmir issue peacefully for sustainable regional peace.
