Digital Census Process Continues Smoothly: PBS

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said on Thursday that the process of the seventh Population and Housing Census, being conducted digitally for the first time in the history of Pakistan, is smoothly underway all across the country.

It said that the overall progress and speed of the census are very satisfactory and encouraging.

The digital census included an option for self-enumeration, which was available from 20 February to 10 March 2023 while field operations of house listing and enumeration started from 1 March and will continue till 4 April 2023.

PBS said that the digital census ensures transparency, data-driven procedures, real-time monitoring through geo-tagging using GIS systems, as well as wider acceptability of the results.

It said structures were listed from 1 March to 10 March, 2023, during which all the economic and residential units were geotagged along with the classification of financial activities as per international standards.

The statement added that people very much appreciated the self-enumeration portal, and they enumerated themselves using it.

Final phase of census

Currently, the last phase of the census, enumeration, is underway that started from 12 March and would continue till 4 April 2023. In this phase, the data of the household members and demographic characteristics, different Socio-Economic Indicators, and Housing characteristics are collected.
