NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Munir Akram, hosted a grand reception to celebrate Pakistan’s victorious election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The event was attended by nearly a hundred ambassadors from across the globe along with United Nations officials on Friday. Ambassadors of the five permanent members of the Security Council– China, United States, Russia, France and Britain — were among those attended.

On June 6, Pakistan was elected with a massive majority as a non-permanent member of the 15-member UN Security Council (UNSC), the world body’s power centre.

Pakistan, which was unopposed, had secured 182 votes in the 193-member General Assembly — far more than the required 124 votes representing a two-thirds majority.

The event also saw participation from members of the Pakistani community residing in and around New York.
