LONDON: Shane Dowrich, the 32-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, makes a surprising return to the West Indies’ 15-man squad for three upcoming one-dayers against England, marking their comeback to international cricket following their absence from the World Cup.
Dowrich’s recall comes after a three-year hiatus from test cricket and four years since his lone one-day international appearance, having amassed experience from 35 test matches. Shai Hope assumes the captaincy, supported by newly appointed vice-captain Alzarri Joseph.
Exciting prospects include all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford and seamer Matthew Forde, both in contention for their debut caps. Coach Daren Sammy emphasized the team’s preparedness, stating, Everyone is fully aware of the demands as we gear up to confront England on our home turf.
The tournament kicks off in Antigua with games scheduled for Dec. 3 and 6, then shifts to Barbados for the ultimate ODI showdown on Dec. 9.
