BAUCHI: Armed men in Nigeria have killed dozens of people and abducted several kids in separate assaults in two states, police and locals said on Sunday, the latest incidents in the area dogged by violence.
Dozens of Killed, Kidnapped in Nigeria
Local people said gunmen had attacked Sakkida and Janbako villages in Zamfara state on Saturday, killing as many as 24 people. The attackers also kidnapped children from Gora village. Abubakar Maradun and Hussaini Ahmadu, local residents in Sakkida and Janbako, told the foreign media by phone that the armed men and attackers had earlier asked villagers to pay a fee to enable them to farm their fields, but they did not do so.
Zamfara police spokesperson Abubakar also confirmed the assaults but said only thirteen people had been killed and 9 children abducted. In Benue state, armed men killed as many as 25 people and also set their houses on fire on Saturday two locals said. Police officials did not immediately issue any statement about the development.
