ISLAMABAD: The federal government has appointed Dr Asad Majeed Khan as the new foreign secretary, said a statement issued here by the Foreign Office on Friday.

Dr Majeed is currently as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, the European Union and Luxembourg.

The Establishment Division issued a notification about the new appointment.

Background of New Foreign Secretary Dr Asad Majeed

Dr Majeed, who is a grade-22 officer of the Foreign Services of Pakistan, replaced Jauhar Saleem, who had been serving as the acting foreign secretary.

Earlier, the Foreign Office had summoned Dr Asad Majeed from Brussels to Islamabad after he was tipped to hold the highest post of toreign secretary.

Dr Majeed was working as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States when he sent a diplomatic cipher that former prime minister Imran Khan repeatedly quoted as vital evidence about the allegedly “foreign conspiracy” that led to the ousting of his government.
