IRBIL: A drone attack has targeted a US military base in northern Iraq, US and Iraqi officials said on Monday.
The number of attacks targeting the coalition forces led by the US, in Iraq to fight militant Daesh group, has increased since the start of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7.
The Iraqi prime minister’s spokesman for military affairs, Yehia Rasool in a statement said a drone was launched toward a base close to Irbil airport on Monday, in Iraqi Kurdistan.
He added the attack caused injuries, without providing further details.
While, a US military official, speaking on condition of anonymity, also confirmed to western media that a drone attack was launched at the US air base.
Meanwhile, Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed to have carry out another drone attack on another base, close to Harir, northeast of Irbil.
Islamic Resistance in Iraq is a loose alliance of armed groups affiliated with the Hashed Al-Shaabi coalition of former paramilitaries.
US presence in Iraq
So far 103 attacks against US troops have been carried out in Iraq and Syria since October 17.
Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed the majority of those attacks which opposes US support for Israel in its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
In early December, the US embassy in Baghdad was hit with rocket fire.

The office of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has said that several arrests have been in this regard.
The US has around 2,500 soldiers deployed in Iraq and about 900 in Syria. The international coalition has been combating the Daesh group since 2014.
