Drone Attacks: Two Dozen US Troops Injured in Syria, Iraq

WASHINGTON:  U.S. Central Command said on Tuesday that two dozen US troops were injured last week in a series of drone attacks at American bases in Syria and Iraq.

The Pentagon also confirmed the assaults last week, but the number of American casualties has not been earlier disclosed. CENTCOM admitted that 20 American personnel sustained minor injuries on October 18 when drones hit al-Tanf military base in Syria.

It added that one of the drones was shot down. All of the injured personnel were returned to duty, CENTCOM added, and there was no harm to any army installations.

On that same day, more four US personnel wounded during two separate drone attacks against the US and coalition troops stationed at al-Asad base in Iraq, CENTCOM added.

The U.S. also shot down the drones, but the wreckage from one destroyed a hanger that contained small airplane, CENTCOM maintained.

Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder, the Pentagon press secretary, said that U.S. and coalition forces were attacked at least ten separate times in Iraq and 3 separate times in Syria “via drones and rockets” over the past week.
