BUDAPEST: Pakistan’s top javelin thrower, Arshad Nadeem, has notched a remarkable dual achievement, securing a spot in the final of the World Athletics Championship as well as a coveted berth in the forthcoming Paris 2024 Olympics.

Nadeem’s exceptional performance, highlighted by a season-best throw of 86.79 meters, propelled him to the pinnacle of the javelin throw competition at the championship being held in Budapest, Hungary.

In a display of determination, Nadeem initially faced a challenging start, achieving 70.63 meters on his first attempt. However, his resilience came to the fore with an impressive 81.53-meter throw on his second try. Demonstrating his prowess, Nadeem delivered his most remarkable performance on his third attempt, covering an astounding distance of 86.79 meters. This achievement surpassed the automatic qualifying mark of 83 meters, ensuring his entry into the final round of the javelin throw competition, scheduled for Sunday, August 27.

Arshad Nadeem rose to prominence following his commendable fifth-place finish in the Tokyo Olympics, a feat that significantly transformed his life. Last year, Nadeem’s journey to recognition continued as he secured fifth place in the World Championship held in the United States. His talents culminated in a remarkable record-breaking feat of 90.18 meters at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

In tandem with Nadeem’s achievement, fellow javelin sensation Neeraj from India also made his mark, securing a berth in the 2024 Olympics with an impressive 88.77-meter throw on his first attempt. This achievement simultaneously propelled him to the final round of the World Championships javelin throw competition. The benchmark for qualifying in the 2024 Paris Olympics is set at 85.50 meters, a criterion that both athletes have exceeded.

With their exceptional accomplishments, Arshad Nadeem and Neeraj are poised to compete for supremacy in the forthcoming final, scheduled to take place on August 27.
