DUBAI: The Dubai International Airport maintained its position as the world’s busiest for international passengers in December, ahead of major airports such as London Heathrow and spurred on by the Emirate airline’s rebound.

The aviation consultancy OAG’s monthly rankings were calculated using international seat capacity and international flight frequency of the airlines, compared with the same period in 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dubai remained in the top position of the busiest airport for international flights this month, with 4.6 million seats, an increase of 8% compared with November, and just over 1 million eats more than the second busiest airport London Heathrow.

Dubai International Airport handled 18.5 million passengers in Q3

Dubai International Airport handled 18.5 million passengers in the current year’s third quarter, doubling compared to the same period of last year due to a larger-than-expected rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The National reported that the quarterly traffic reached pre-pandemic levels for the first time since 2020, with the numbers higher than the 17.8 million passengers who traveled through the Dubai airport in the first three months of 2020 before the spread of the pandemic.

The airport recorded average monthly traffic exceeding the 6 million marks through the third quarter. –APP
