DUBAI: Dubai, renowned for its futuristic architecture, is set to embark on an ambitious project to create a colossal replica of the moon atop a skyscraper, with an estimated cost exceeding £4 billion.
According to The Mirror, a Dubai-based resort has unveiled plans to construct a simulated moon structure on the rooftop of a 30-meter building. The spherical replica is projected to measure an impressive 274 meters in length.
Dubbed “Moon,” the project aims to offer visitors an otherworldly experience without leaving Earth. It is anticipated that the artificial moon will attract over 2.5 million people annually and generate revenue exceeding £1.5 billion per year.
The funding for this ambitious venture will be provided by Moon World Resorts.
Michael Henderson, a Canadian entrepreneur and co-founder of the project, expressed confidence in its potential success. He stated, “We have the biggest ‘brand’ in the world. Eight billion people know our brand, and we haven’t even started yet.”
Dubai plans to attract tourists
The moon replica will house a resort featuring a 4,000-room hotel, a 10,000-capacity arena, a nightclub, and a wellness center.
Guests will also have the opportunity to simulate walking on the moon through a “lunar colony” experience. Furthermore, the structure will illuminate the night sky, mimicking the appearance of a full moon, half moon, or crescent moon.
Co-founders Michael Henderson and Sandra G Matthews emphasized that the project will have a profound impact on the UAE’s economy, particularly in the tourism sector.
They believe that the moon replica will become the largest and most successful contemporary tourism endeavor in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
They anticipate that it will double annual tourism visitations to Dubai due to its global appeal, widespread brand recognition, and diverse range of integrated offerings.
