BEIJING: An advanced disaster risk simulation and early warning forecast system will be deployed to fortify disaster resilience in the mountainous regions of Pakistan. The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan (NDMA) inked a collaboration agreement with this objective in mind.

This agreement between the China-Pakistan Joint Research Centre for Earth Sciences (CPJRC) and the National Disaster Management Institute (NDMI), targets an enhancement in disaster management, particularly in Pakistan’s northern mountainous areas susceptible to earthquakes and landslides.

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will endeavour to advance the adoption of mountain disaster risk simulation and early warning forecast systems. Additionally, the establishment of new monitoring stations is anticipated, which will bolster risk assessment and facilitate crucial data collection for prompt and efficient disaster response, Chinese media reported.  —APP
