ECP Bars Caretaker Govt from PIA Privatization, Seeks Records

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has barred the caretaker federal government from proceeding with the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

In a letter addressed to the Secretary Cabinet Division, the secretary of ECP directed the federal government to stop the privatization process of PIA. ECP emphasized the suspension of the privatization process and formally requested all relevant records associated with the decision.

The letter underscored that no actions related to the privatization of PIA should be taken until the ECP delivers its final verdict on the matter. Additionally, it urged the provision of comprehensive records and cabinet decisions pertaining to the privatization for examination.

ECP Bars Govt from FBR Restructuring

Earlier on the same day, the ECP reiterated its stance, advising the caretaker federal government against restructuring the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

In a letter addressed to caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the Secretary ECP emphasized that the caretaker government’s primary responsibility is to manage day-to-day affairs and recommended refraining from making significant policy decisions.

The letter highlighted the potential impact of hasty decisions on the upcoming elected government and urged a cautious approach in handling such matters.
