Army Deployment for 2024 General Elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has formally requested the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel both inside and outside polling stations.

In a letter addressed to the Interior Ministry, the ECP has sought the deployment of Pakistan Army personnel to ensure comprehensive security, enabling citizens to “freely exercise” their right to vote.

Sources reveal that the ECP has also requested a detailed report from the Interior Ministry regarding security arrangements for the upcoming general elections by November 27. The report is expected to encompass the availability of security personnel from the four provinces and the Islamabad Commissioner, along with a comprehensive security plan.

The letter emphasizes the constitutional obligation of both the Centre and the provinces to support the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). It underscores the responsibility of law enforcement agencies to enhance the law-and-order situation in all constituencies.
