Education Minister Stresses Universities’ Role to Respond to Current Challenges

ISLAMABAD: Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, on Sunday emphasized the important role of universities in developing skills in youth and responding more efficiently to the rapidly developing challenges and realities.

Addressing the inaugural session of the fifth Vice-Chancellors’ Forum of Universities in the Islamic World titled “Towards Disruptive Technology in a Globalized World”, he called upon all Islamic countries to use resources and expertise and benefit the entire Muslim Ummah.

Importance of education

He said the most important effect of education is the development of good character.

The minister underlined the need for a framework for mutual recognition of degrees among OIC member countries, which can facilitate the great movement of skilled manpower and enhance collaborative research between these countries.

More than 250 Vice Chancellors, including forty from twenty OIC countries, participated in the Forum, which is aimed at pooling resources, fostering collaborations, sharing experiences, strengthening networks among universities, and promoting discussion on higher education’s future in the Muslim World.

The forum is jointly organized by the Higher Education Commission Pakistan, Ministry of Federal Education, COMSATS University Islamabad, Islamic World Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization, and British Council Pakistan.
