ISLAMABAD: Due to the ongoing protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan’s government on Tuesday extended the closure of public and private educational institutions in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for one more day.

The Islamabad administration made a formal announcement on Tuesday regarding the closure of all educational institutions on Wednesday (tomorrow) keeping in view the current political situation. It said the decision will apply to all educational institutions in the federal capital.

Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi administration also announced that the academic activities would remain suspended in the city for the third day. The Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi stated that the decision was made in light of the current situation in the district.

Pakistan’s law enforcement agencies have already taken control of Islamabad’s D-Chowk and pushed back Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protesters after clashes erupted between security forces and rallygoers.

The PTI workers had attempted to remove the container blocking the heavily fortified Red Zone in the federal capital, prompting police to evacuate the area.

Earlier today, former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s party charged protesters entered Islamabad’s D-Chowk as the heavily fortified Red Zone in the federal capital has become a battleground.

The country’s law enforcement agencies (LEAs) personnel used tear gas to deter Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) party workers.

PTI protesters, defying heavy security measures and roadblocks, reached D-Chowk after a day of intense clashes with law enforcement.

The protesters, who began their march from various regions of the country on Sunday, arrived in Islamabad on Tuesday morning, where they clashed with law enforcement officers on the Srinagar Highway.
