Egypt and Chad Commit to Supporting Ceasefire Efforts in Sudan

NEW ALAMEIN, Egypt: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby met in New Alamein City to discuss regional issues and bilateral relations. The primary focus of their talks was the urgent need for a ceasefire in Sudan, where ongoing conflict has led to a severe humanitarian crisis.

During the meeting, President Sisi underscored the long-standing historical ties between Egypt and Chad and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to aiding Chad across various sectors. This includes sharing expertise in energy, infrastructure, health, education, agriculture, and livestock, as well as enhancing security and counter-terrorism efforts to ensure Chad’s stability.

President Déby praised the role of Egyptian institutions and companies in Chad, particularly in supporting educational, cultural, and infrastructure initiatives, including the activities of Al-Azhar mission in Chad. Both leaders agreed to activate a joint committee to expedite cooperation projects and address mutual interests.

The discussion also covered broader African issues, including the security situation in the Sahel region and coordination within the Community of Sahel–Saharan States. The leaders emphasized the importance of a ceasefire in Sudan to alleviate the humanitarian crisis and reiterated their support for efforts to stabilize Libya and address terrorist threats in the Sahel.
