CAIRO: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and foreign ministers of Arab countries are embarking on a trip to five permanent member nations of the UN Security Council to convince them to play a proactive role to end war on Gaza, Western media reported on Sunday.
They are carrying out the trip following a decision made by the foreign ministers of a committee set up during the recent Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit.
Spokesperson for Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that objective of Shoukry’s tour is to advance the process to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and to deal with the worsening humanitarian conditions in the besieged territory.

He said the foreign ministers would have meetings with political leaders and key ministers.
The ministry said the trip would stress the need for an immediate ceasefire and ensure the supply of humanitarian assistance to the Gaza Strip.
It emphasized the need to address the root cause of the crisis and establish an independent Palestinian state through a diplomatic process.
Meanwhile, Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit held meetings with several Arab and foreign officials in Bahrain on the sidelines of the annual IISS Manama Dialogue security moot.
Aboul Gheit recently also discussed the situation of Gaza with Lord Tariq Ahmad, the UK’s minister of state for the Middle East.
He also spoke to EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell.
He briefed Borrell about the Arab approach to end the war and to find a permanent solution to the Palestinian cause in accordance with the vision of the two states.
