CAIRO: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sameh Shoukry, met with Sigrid Kaag, the UN’s senior coordinator for humanitarian and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip.
During the meeting, both sides discussed the severe humanitarian conditions in Gaza and emphasized the urgency of enhancing aid flow to Palestinians. They also discussed the importance of supporting public services, hospitals, and relief agencies.
Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Kaag in implementing UN Security Council resolutions, particularly in swiftly establishing a UN mechanism to expedite aid delivery. The minister also urged Israel to cooperate rather than hinder Kaag in carrying out her responsibilities.
Emphasizing the pressing nature of the “current tragic situation,” Shoukry underscored the immediate need for aid entry and said that a ceasefire remains the most effective means to alleviate the escalating humanitarian crisis in the Strip.
Kaag, scheduled to visit North Sinai’s El-Arish International Airport and the Rafah border crossing, expressed gratitude to Egypt for its coordinating role in Gaza.
