CAIRO: Egypt has denounced Israel’s decision to construct a new illegal settlement in occupied East Jerusalem, Western media reported on Wednesday. In a statement, Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the move “a new blatant violation of global decisions and the UNSC resolutions about the illegitimacy of Israeli settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of the Israeli illegal settlement policies in all occupied territories, including East Jerusalem, and its repeated efforts to undermine the existing historical, legal, and demographic context in an attempt to separate parts of the land from its Palestinian surroundings. Egypt demanded that Israel halt its unlawful settlement activities.

The statement reiterated Egypt’s government call to influential global parties, including the UN and its relevant forums, to shoulder their jobs and responsibilities in securing the rights of Palestinians to stop unilateral Israeli settlement activities that undermine the basics of peace.

It stressed the need for Israel to halt exploiting the world’s preoccupation with the war it is waging against the people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip to intensify its illegitimate practices in the occupied West Bank, including settlement attempts.
