Egypt, US Top Diplomats Discuss Regional Situation Amid War in Gaza

WASHINGTON: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry have discussed efforts for advancing stability in the region.

US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller said that they held talks via phone. Matthew Miller added that the two sides discussed efforts for advancing stability in the region.

The spokesperson said that Blinken and Shoukry also discussed the need to increase humanitarian help to the Gaza Strip, protect civilians, and secure an urgent truce that would include the release of all the remaining hostages.

Meanwhile, officials in Gaza said that five people have been killed and over 30 wounded in an Israeli assault on Gaza City.  According to Arab media, Israeli settlers have also conducted several assaults in the occupied West Bank, killing one and injuring several Palestinian people, burning vehicles and houses and also attacking at Red Crescent ambulances.

Gaza Health Ministry said that around 33,634 Palestinian people mostly children and women have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza since Oct 7. It added that 76,214 people have also been injured in brutal Israeli strikes on Gaza.

On the other hand, Hezbollah says it fired “dozens of rockets” at Israeli positions Friday. It said that the attack was in reply to Israeli strikes in the southern areas. The exchange of firing has been reporting between Israeli forces and Hezbollah on daily basis since Oct 7.

In a statement, the group stated that the group men attacked “enemy positions… with dozens of rockets.” It further added the attack was in reply to the enemy’s strikes on civilians in South.”

Lebanon’s official News Agency stated that Israeli attacks of several regions near the border. According to AFP around 363 people have been killed in Lebanon in the recent violence in the region.
