CAIRO: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry emphasized the importance of restraint in separate phone conversations with the foreign ministers of Iran and Israel on Sunday, as per a statement issued by Egypt.

Shoukry urged both Iranian and Israeli counterparts “to exercise utmost self-restraint and avoid actions that could escalate tensions and instability in the region,” highlighting Egypt’s readiness to escalate efforts in defusing the escalating crisis.

The foreign ministry’s statement emphasized the critical nature of the current situation, which coincides with the crisis in the Gaza Strip and adds tension to other volatile areas in the region.

In addition to these calls, Shoukry engaged in a discussion with U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, addressing what Egypt views as a serious threat to the security and stability of the Middle East following Iran’s recent drone and missile attacks on Israel.
