LAHORE: Pakistan’s former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan Sunday expressed his “confident” that Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi will dissolve Punjab Assembly after he wins the confidence vote.

While speaking to senior journalists in Lahore, Imran Khan said Parvez Elahi would take the confidence vote from the provincial assembly.

Imran Khan said that after the confidence vote, the PTI plans to dissolve the Punjab Assembly and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.

“When both the provincial assemblies have been dissolved, then the government will be forced to announce general elections,” Imran Khan said, adding that if elections are delayed even after PTI’s move, “it would not affect” the party.

Defending the delay in the dissolution of assemblies, Imran Khan said PTI had to convince its coalition partners before it takes the major step to dissolve assemblies.

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) and PTI are currently holding negotiations on the date of dissolution and seat adjustment before they head into elections. However, for the date of the assembly’s dissolution, the PML-Q has repeatedly said it was awaiting Imran Khan’s instructions.

But both the PML-Q and PTI have stressed that the provincial assemblies will be dissolved — sooner or later.

Reiterating his prediction about the general elections, Imran Khan said that he foresees elections in April 2023.
