ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Saturday has approved the nomination papers the Senior Vice President Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), Maryam Nawaz, however returned the papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Zulfi Bukhari and Azam Swati with objection from isolated constituencies.
According to the spokesperson of Maryum Nawaz, her nomination papers were accepted by the returning officers (ROs), from the constituencies in Lahore and Sargodha, however the final decision of her contesting election from particular constituencies would be decided later.
Till date the PML-N senior vice president has submitted nomination papers from two National Assembly constituencies: NA-19 and NA-120, and four Punjab Assembly constituencies :PP-159, PP-160, PP-165 and PP-80.
Nomination Papers of Zulfi, Azam Swati Rejected
Meanwhile the RO rejected the nomination papers of PTI leader Azam Swati for NA-15.
Swati’s lawyer Sohail Swati told media that said Azam Khan’s papers were rejected claiming his signatures to be fake and raising objection on him being an absconder adding that they will move to the election tribunal against the decision.
Nomination papers of Zulfi Bukhari were also rejected on account of fake signatures, however his lawyer termed the move as ridiculous adding that the signatures were counter signed by the oath commission.
It is worth mentioning here that 30th December (Saturday) is the last day of scrutiny of nomination papers submitted by candidates wishful to contest the general elections to be held in February 2024.
