KARACHI: Sindh’s Election Commissioner, Sharifullah has said that around 19,006 polling stations have been established across the province for 26.995 million registered voters.
He said that the ballot papers and other election material had been dispatched to the offices of district returning officers spanning every district within the province. Furthermore, the deployment of polling personnel was underway.
In a press conference held at the provincial election commissioner’s office, Sharifullah, accompanied by Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Sardar Nazar Abbas, reiterated that all election materials were scheduled for delivery to their respective polling stations by Wednesday. He asserted confidently that thus far, no grievances regarding the electoral proceedings had been received.
The election commissioner stated that they are coordinating with the provincial government, the director general of Sindh Rangers, and other relevant entities to ensure security measures for the upcoming February 8 general elections.
Notably, comprehensive surveillance systems, including closed-circuit television cameras, had been installed at strategically identified polling stations across the province. Sharifullah emphasized that all requisite arrangements for the polls had been meticulously executed.
In alignment with these measures, Abbas emphasized the deployment of Rangers personnel outside polling stations, complemented by specialized training for law enforcement personnel tasked with safeguarding the electoral process.
Highlighting the province’s 6,524 sensitive or highly sensitive polling stations, it was reiterated that a vigilant contingent comprising Rangers and police personnel would be stationed accordingly. Additionally, Sharifullah emphasized the imperative for polling agents to promptly lodge complaints should they encounter any impediments, such as difficulties in procuring form-45.
