CHARSSADDA: Independent candidate Fazal Muhammad Khan has won National Assembly constituency NA-25 Charsadda-II by taking 1,00,713 votes in Pakistan’s general elections. According to the unofficial results his runner-up was Aimal Wali Khan, who collected 67,876 votes.
ANP’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Aimal Wali Khan, who is the son of ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, was contesting the election for a national assembly seat in his hometown of Charsadda following his father was out of the race due to health issues.
History of NA24 Charsadda-II
The history of the previous elections showed that the ANP’s had won the seat a record six times, the JUIF’s 3 times, and the PTI’s only once. During general polls held between 1970 and 2018, this constituency was won 3 times by ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan, two times by his father Khan Abdul Wali Khan, and once by Begium Nasim Wali Khan.
Similarly, JUI-F’s Maulana Hassan Jan Shaheed also clinched victory in the 1990 elections, and Maulana Gohar Shah won it 2 times, while PTI’s candidate won it once in 2018.
In the 1970 polls, ANP head Abdul Wali Khan emerged victorious following securing 34,359 votes, while his spouse Begium Nasim Wali Khan also secured victory with 48,653 votes during the 1977 polls in the country.
However, late Abdul Wali Khan had regained the constituency in the 1998 polls after obtaining 63,185 votes. Abdul Wali Khan lost to JUI-F’s Maulana Hasan Jan Shaheed in the 1990 after the latter took 66,452 votes. As a result, the former left practical politics in the country.
ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan was also elected MNA from this seat in the 1993 elections with 56,164 votes and the 1997 with 55,059 votes, respectively.
In the 2002 general elections in Pakistan, JUI-F Maulana Gohar Shah secured win with 55,917 votes, while Asfandyar Wali Khan was again elected in the 2008 election after taking 38,835 votes.
In the 2013 elections, the constituency was re-clinched by JUI-F Maulana Gohar Shah with 53,610 votes, and PTI’s Fazal Muhammad achieved a win in the 2018 polls with 83,596 votes.
