LONDON: King Charles will host the Emir of Qatar and his wife during a state visit to the UK on December 3-4, Buckingham Palace announced on Friday.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and Sheikha Jawaher will stay at the palace in central London during their visit, as reported by The Times.
Sheikh Tamim, who has served as Qatar’s emir since 2013, has strong ties to the UK, having attended Sherborne School and Sandhurst. This state visit underscores the growing partnership between the two nations, particularly in areas such as education, business, and energy.
The emir recently met UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer during the Paris Olympic Games this summer, and they have previously met in Qatar.
King Charles, who visited Qatar multiple times while serving as Prince of Wales, saw Sheikh Tamim at his coronation last year. Their most recent encounter occurred during the COP28 summit in Dubai in November and December of the previous year.
