PAARL: Sophie Ecclestone’s magnificent spell powered the England team to bundle out Ireland for a meager 105 runs before Alice Capsey’s half-century led the side to a four-wicket comfortable victory in the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

After electing to bat first, Ireland’s batting lineup failed to perform well as the side bundled out for only 105 runs in the 19th over.

Opening batter Gaby Lewis remained the top-run-scorer for Ireland with 36 off 37 deliveries, while Orla Prendergast, with 17 runs, was the other notable run-scorer for the Irish side.

Besides their top four batters, the rest of Ireland’s batting lineup collapsed, and none could amass double figures.

For England, Ecclestone led the bowling attack with three wickets for just 13 runs in her four overs, while Sarah Glenn returned with three wickets for 19 runs. Charlie Dean claimed two wickets.

Set to chase 106 runs target, England amassed the total in the 15th over for the loss of just six wickets at the back of a brilliant half-century by Capsey.

Capsey stitched a courageous second-wicket partnership with Danni Wyatt after a shaky start of England as Sophia Dunkley and ensured England got over the line despite a late collapse that saw England skidding from 70/1 to 103/6.

Right-handed batter Capsey remained the top-scorer for her side with a quickfire 51 runs off just 22 deliveries, hitting 10 fours and a six.

Cara Murray sparkled a ray of hope for Ireland with her impressive bowling spell as she claimed three wickets for just 15 runs, but the target on board was not enough to take her side to victory.

Orla Prendergast and Arlene Kelly struck out a batter each for Ireland.
