NOTTINGHAM: England defeated the West Indies by 241 runs in the second Test at Trent Bridge on Sunday to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in a three-match series.
Chasing a daunting target of 385 runs for victory, the West Indies crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for just 143 in their second innings on the fourth day. The collapse saw them lose all 10 wickets in a mere 23 overs, with 20-year-old off-spinner Shoaib Bashir emerging as the standout performer, claiming his Test-best figures of 5-41.
Earlier in the match, England had set the stage for victory with an impressive batting display. In their second innings, the Yorkshire duo of Joe Root and Harry Brook both notched up centuries. Root scored 122 runs, while Brook contributed 109 as England posted a total of 425 runs.
The West Indies had initially gained a slim advantage by leading England by 41 runs in the first innings. They had posted a competitive total of 457 in reply to England’s 416, buoyed by notable performances from Kieran Hodge (120) and Joshua Da Silva (82 not out).

Despite the promising start in the first innings, the West Indies faltered under pressure in the second innings against England’s bowling attack. Chris Woakes set the tone early with crucial breakthroughs, paving the way for Shoaib Bashir to dismantle the West Indian batting order.
England’s Ollie Pope was awarded the player of the match accolade for his significant contributions with the bat, amassing a total of 172 runs across both innings, including a crucial 121 in the first innings.
With this victory, England has sealed the series with a comprehensive 2-0 lead over the West Indies. The third and final Test of the series is scheduled to commence at Edgbaston on Friday.
