DHARAMSALA: James Anderson continues to defy age, recently attaining the remarkable achievement of becoming the first pace bowler to claim 700 Test wickets. This places him behind only two spinners, Muttiah Muralitharan (800 Test wickets) and the late Shane Warne (708), on the list of the game’s most successful bowlers.

During the fifth and final Test against India in Dharamsala on Saturday, Anderson joined ‘700 club’ by dismissing Kuldeep Yadav with a well-placed delivery outside off.  Renowned for his mastery of conventional and reverse swing, as well as his precise control, Anderson boasts an impressive record of 32 five-wicket hauls at an average of 26.52 across his 187 Test matches for England.

Despite the grueling demands of pace bowling, Anderson shows no signs of slowing down, crediting the dynamic leadership of England captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum for keeping him inspired. Expressing his love for the camaraderie within the team, Anderson remains motivated to continue representing his country for as long as possible.

While his longtime bowling partner Stuart Broad retired last year at the age of 37, Anderson continues to prove his worth, notably contributing with crucial wickets during the current series against India. —AFP/APP
