Erdogan, Saudi Leadership Discuss Bilateral Cooperation, Regional, Global Matters

JEDDAH:  Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Saudi leadership have discussed ways to enhance further cooperation in diverse sectors, including trade, economy, defence, health, education, science, and tourism, a joint statement said on Wednesday.

According to a joint statement, a meeting was held between Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman and Turkish President Erdogan during his stay in the Kingdom. The two sides discussed the historical ties between the two countries and ways to enhance ties in all aspects, the joint statement added. The two leaders also exchanged views on the current regional and global affairs, it said. The two sides also discussed the role of Riyadh and Ankara to address the current global economic and trade challenges, the joint statement maintained.

“The two leaders emphasized the significance of accelerating cooperation in the commercial and investment fields, highlighting their promise to support opportunities for economic integration in different sectors including construction, infrastructure, engineering and industry”.

Saudi-Turkish Investment Forum

The two sides also commended the results of the Saudi-Turkish Investment Forum, which took place during the tour of the Saudi Minister of Investment last year. Ankara expressed its support for Riyadh’s endeavours in addressing the challenge of climate change.

The joint statement further added, “Ankara and Riyadh wanted to strengthen cooperation and partnership in technology, telecommunications, the digital economy, space, and innovation.”

Turkey also welcomed Saudi Arabia’s hosting of the Fourth Ministerial Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance, that to be held in November 2024. According to the joint statement, they welcomed the inking of the executive plan for cooperation in diverse sectors.  Both countries condemned the deliberate abuse of the Holy Quran and emphasized the importance of solid efforts to promote values like tolerance, dialogue, coexistence, and the rejection of extremism and hatred against all religions, the statement maintained.

Regarding Yemen, they underscored the significance of fully supporting the UN and regional steps aimed at achieving a comprehensive political settlement to the crisis in Yemen. Ankara lauded Riyadh’s extensive efforts and initiatives in promoting reconciliation among the Yemeni parties, as well as its role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian help to all regions of Yemen.

They also expressed their unwavering support for the Presidential Leadership Council of Yemen. According to the SPA, the Turkish side also warmly welcomed the restoration of diplomatic ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The joint statement maintained that Saudi Arabia lauded the developing ties between Egypt and Turkey and extended its support in this connection. They also strongly condemned Israel’s continued aggression and provocations in the occupied Palestinian territories. With regard to the current situation in Sudan, they stressed the significance of all parties to the conflict committing to a permanent truce.

Concluding the visit, Erdogan expressed gratitude towards King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the warm reception and hospitality extended to him, the statement further said.
