ASTANA: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called for an urgent ceasefire in Israel’s ongoing strikes on Gaza, denouncing the Israeli actions as “crimes against humanity.”
Speaking during a summit of Turkic States in the Kazakh capital Astana, Erdogan expressed deep concern over the brutality witnessed in Gaza since the conflict began on October 7.
“There is no concept that could explain or excuse the brutality that we have witnessed since October 7,” Erdogan declared, emphasizing that crimes against humanity had been committed in Gaza for 28 days. He underscored the need for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire and stressed Turkey’s commitment to establishing new mechanisms ensuring the security of all individuals, regardless of their religious background.
Erdogan Announces International Peace Conference
Erdogan also revealed ongoing efforts to lay the groundwork for an international peace conference. The Turkish President has been a staunch supporter of the Palestinian cause, actively participating in pro-Palestinian rallies and positioning himself as a mediator amid the ongoing conflict.
Since October 7, Israel has relentlessly bombarded Gaza, resulting in a devastating toll on innocent lives. According to the Gaza health ministry, 9,061 Palestinians, including 3,760 children, have been martyred during the Israeli strikes in the Palestinian territory.
