EU Chief Lauds Ukrainian ‘Resistance’ on Conflict Anniversary

KYIV: European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen has lauded Ukraine’s “extraordinary resistance” as she has arrived in Kyiv to mark the 2nd anniversary of the start of Russia’s attack.

“In Ukraine to mark the 2nd anniversary of Moscow’s war on Kyiv. And to celebrate the extraordinary resistance of the people of Ukraine,” Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement via social media.

Ursula von der Leyen stated that more than ever, they stand resolutely by Ukraine, adding, “Financially, militarily, economically, morally. Until the nation is eventually free.”

Meanwhile, Russian Minister for Defense Sergei Shoigu visited Russian forces in occupied Ukraine, in a statement the Russian military said on the anniversary of war. The Minister claimed that today, in terms of the ratio of troops, the advantage is on Russian side.

The military’s statement further said that Sergei Shoigu was briefed that Russian forces were on the offensive following taking the industrial city of Avdiivka.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden had announced sanctions against Moscow and imposed sanctions on more than 500 targets, to mark the 2ndanniversary of war in Ukraine while vowing sustained pressure to prevent President Putin’s war.
