BRUSSELS: European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Jordan and Egypt, her spokesperson Eric Mamer said Wednesday, amid war in Gaza.
The spokesperson said that Ursula von der Leyen will hold a meeting with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday during her stay in Egypt. She is also visit Sinai, for the arrival of a European Union humanitarian convoy. Ursula von der Leyen and Jordan’s King Abdullah II will also hold a meeting.
Earlier, European Commission President Von der Leyen visited Israel after the war in Gaza.In Gaza, over 11,500 people have been killed due to Israeli brutal bombardment and ground offensive, health officials said.
EU Chief to Visit Jordan, Egypt on Saturday Amid War in Gaza
In a speech to European Union diplomats at the beginning of November, she said the EU would increase its humanitarian held and aid for Gaza by $27 million. Meanwhile, in a statement, Riyad Mansour, the Palestinian permanent envoy at the UNSC said that Israel has violated all global norms by attacking al-Shifa hospital and is still being treated as an entity above the law. He said that calls for restraint are not working. He further said “The demands for respect of global law should be backed by serious, immediate, and collective efforts to enforce the law.”
Earlier, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation forces attacking the Shifa Medical Complex and continuing to besiege Gaza City major hospitals, depriving them of fuel, electricity, and food and targeting staff members, displaced people, the sick, the injured, and premature babies in incubators, with the presence of dozens of corpses inside the hospital, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Wednesday.
