BRUSSELS:  Ursula von der Leyen head of the European Union’s executive Commission on Wednesday expressed confidence that a resolution would be reached by all 27 member states to address the funding deadlock for Ukraine.

The issue has been stalled due to Hungary’s opposition, despite EU leaders agreed last month to initiate accession talks with Ukraine. The proposed financial package of 50 billion euros for Kyiv was not approved due to Hungary’s veto. Von der Leyen conveyed this message to EU lawmakers.

EU leaders decide to start accession negotiations with Ukraine

During the EU summit held in Brussels, leaders of the European Union opted to initiate accession talks with Ukraine. They reaffirmed the EU’s steadfast dedication to offering robust assistance to Ukraine and its citizens for the duration necessary.

Simultaneously, public support for the EU’s measures in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine remains notably strong, with nearly nine out of ten EU citizens (89%) endorsing humanitarian aid for those affected by the conflict. Furthermore, over eight in ten (84%) express agreement with incorporating individuals fleeing the war into the European Union, as revealed by the latest Eurobarometer.
