ISLAMABAD: Film enthusiasts from the twin cities and four other cities across Pakistan will get a rare opportunity to discover European cinema at the 2nd European Film Festival next month at the Pakistan National Council of Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad.

The film festival will be organized in Islamabad, Gilgit, Peshawar, Multan, and Quetta from 2 to 24 June.

The European Film Festival (EFF) celebrates cinema, bringing together moviemakers, actors, and enthusiasts.

It provides a unique opportunity for Pakistani audiences to discover European cinema’s rich and diverse world and get a glimpse into the social and cultural issues that shape modern European societies.

Dr Riina Kionka, Ambassador of the European Union to Pakistan, said that in the EU, they actively support filmmaking as an art and a medium to address important issues that societies are grappling with today. Cinema provides a unique opportunity to dive into the minds and worlds of characters that live very different lives. It allows the audience to see the world through different angles, develop respect and compassion for others.

Unique Films in Festival

The festival will have a selection of unique and thought-provoking movies best experienced by fellow film enthusiasts.

The screenings include short films and feature films on different topics, such as relations between generations, embracing diversity, gender equality, climate change, and human rights.

Many of the movies are co-productions made by collaborating professionals and organizations from different European nations.

In Islamabad, the movie ‘Any Day Now’ (Ensilumi) tells a story of a family that stands intact in love – facing an uncertain future.

There will be panel discussions after the screening, by renowned Pakistani moviemakers, writers, actors, and academics to reflect on issues of relevance and different styles of storytelling.

In Islamabad, Sania Saeed, Sarmad Khoosat, and Saim Sadiq will discuss the democratization of traditional media and moviemaking through social media in a panel discussion moderated by Tamkenat Mansoor.

The festival also gives an opportunity for aspiring Pakistani moviemakers to learn to bring forth creative narratives under the training of award-winning moviemaker Kanwal Khoosat in a series of master classes.
