MEXICO CITY: A powerful explosion at a steel plant in Mexico’s central state of Tlaxcala has killed at least 12 workers, with another person injured, Juvencio Nieto, head of Tlaxcala’s civil protection force said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred early Wednesday around 3:00 am local time (0900 GMT) in the Aceros Simec steel plant, located within an industrial estate.
“The accident took place when molten steel made contact with water, triggering a massive explosion,” Nieto explained to Mexico’s Televisa network, though he added that the specific sequence of events leading to the accident remains under investigation.
