KYIV: According to regional officials, a hospital in northeastern Ukraine was struck by a Russian bomb on Wednesday, resulting in the destruction of windows and equipment and necessitating the evacuation of numerous patients.

Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the Kharkiv regional branch of the national police, reported that one bomb directly hit the hospital in Velykyi Burluk around 9:45 p.m., with a second bomb landing nearby.

Tymoshko stated on Facebook that 38 individuals, primarily patients with only two confined to hospital beds, were evacuated from the premises. Regional Governor Oleh Synehubov, writing on Telegram, disclosed that cleanup efforts continued late into the night, with four individuals receiving treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

Synehubov praised the hospital staff for their prompt response to air raid alerts, which facilitated a smooth evacuation process. Patients were either transferred to alternative facilities or transitioned to outpatient care. Photos released by Ukrainian Emergency Services on Telegram depicted extensive damage, with shattered windows and debris scattered throughout the hospital premises.

While there is no independent verification of the incident, the Kharkiv region has been subject to frequent Russian attacks in recent weeks. Russia’s defense ministry has yet to comment on the matter. Despite Russia’s denial of targeting civilian facilities, medical and educational institutions have suffered damage during the ongoing 23-month-long conflict.

Meanwhile, Kharkiv’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, announced on Telegram that Russian drones had struck an infrastructure target within the city, with no immediate information available regarding casualties.
