Explosion Kills 3 in Philippines University: Report

MANILA: As many as 3 people were killed in a blast in a university gymnasium in southern Philippine city of Marawi, local media reported on Sunday. As per media reports nine people were also injured in the blast in the university.  A local radio channel reported that the blast took place during a Catholic Mass in the gym. CNN cited a local police officer as saying that 3 people were reportedly killed and nine injured in the blast.

Mindanao Governor of Lanao del Sur Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. denounced what he said was a “violent blasting.” In a statement, the governor said that terroristic assaults on educational institutions must be denounced as these are places that promote the culture, peace and mold the youth to be the future shapers of the nation.

As per media reports, the wounded people have been shifted to the nearby hospital for the medical treatment. It added that rescue workers and emergency authorities rushed to the sport after the blast in the university.
