Fact Check: China Rejects as ‘Preposterous’ Claims of Entry Checks for Mobile Phones

HONG KONG: Local authorities said that assertions that all arrivals in China will face mobile telephone checks from July 1 are completely false. Chinese officials rejected the claims and termed it baseless.

Local officials said that on April 26, the state security ministry issued documents regarding the law enforcement regulations but some hostile overseas anti-China elements have seized on the opportunity to distort the truth by making false allegations.

The local authorities said that in particular it completely dismissed as “absolutely preposterous” a claim that all arrivals would undergo phone checks on their entry.

Targets of such inspection must be “organizations or individuals related to counter-espionage work, such as suspected spies who take videos or pictures in military restricted areas, the officials said.
