NEW YORK: There is no evidence to support the claim that Elon Musk banned Taylor Swift’s X account or that she lost over 1 million followers on the platform in September 2024.
This allegation surfaced after Musk, who endorsed Donald Trump in July, reacted to Swift’s endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris on September 10, just ahead of the U.S. Presidential election. He posted, “Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life” on X, which he acquired in 2022.
Facebook posts claimed: “Elon Musk Bans Taylor Swift’s X Account, causing her to lose over 1 million followers and $72 Million,” featuring a photo of Swift and Musk. However, there’s no evidence that Swift’s account has been suspended; as of this article’s publication, her account remains active with over 95 million followers. Archived versions from September, including September 11 and 13, show her profile still up.

Furthermore, there are no credible reports of her account being taken down or temporarily offline at any point in September. Jason Urgo, CEO of social media analytics firm Social Blade, confirmed in an email to Reuters that there’s no indication of a net loss of 1 million followers on Swift’s Twitter/X account during that time.
Representatives for both Swift and X did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
VERDICT
No evidence. There is no credible information suggesting Musk banned Swift’s X account or that she lost 1 million followers.
