WASHINGTON: The US Investigation Division has apprehended a member of Republican presidential contester Nikki Haley’s staff for bribing several voters ahead of the Iowa caucus. The claim and news can be traced to a website that identifies its content and information as satirical, Reuters reported.
Posts on several social media claimed that the arrest was made on the occasion of the 2024 Republican presidential caucus in Iowa in which Nikki Haley came third behind Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis.
The claim and news originate from a January 15 story by Real Raw News titled, “White Hats Arrest Campaign Staffer for Haley in Iowa, social media post” citing an unnamed “source at the CID’s officials.”
However, Reuters said that no press release on the arrest can be found on the official and a spokesperson for the US investigation told Reuters it has not been involved in any such arrest.
AnnMarie Graham-Barnes, a representative for Nikki Haley, said that the social media claims are false, saying that “no member of the drive was apprehended and no member was distributing cards of any form.” Reuters said that it found no news outlets reporting on the arrest or bribery incident.
