WASHINGTON: An old photo of Michelle Obama is being circulated on social media with a misleading caption claiming it shows her at this week’s Democratic National Convention. On August 19, a post on Threads shared the image, stating, “Michelle Obama just showed up at the DNC Convention.”
In reality, both Michelle and former U.S. President Barack Obama gave keynote speeches at the Democratic Convention in Chicago on August 20. Reuters photos from the event show Michelle Obama with braided hair and wearing a dark navy pantsuit from the fashion label Monse.
The image in question, however, was actually taken on September 9, 2022, during the U.S. Open men’s singles semi-final in Flushing, New York. The photograph, captured by Tennis Photo Network photographer Mike Frey and also by Reuters photographer Mike Segar, shows Michelle Obama wearing a blue and white striped jumpsuit.
The photo of Michelle Obama is from 2022 at the U.S. Open, not from the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
