WASHINGTON: On the second death anniversary of Syed Ali Geelani, World Kashmir Awareness Forum Secretary-General Ghulam Nabi Fai praised the late Kashmiri leader and described him as “incorruptible and conscientious.”

In a statement to commemorate the event, Dr. Fai stated that Geelani persisted in the fight for freedom of Kashmir, called “the paradise on earth,” despite India’s harsh tactics, which included twelve years spent under house imprisonment.

“The Kashmiri nation honors his illustrious life of determination and courage,” he stated. “Today,” he continued, “the Kashmiri nation is paying homage to his inspirational vision and spirit,” highlighting several instances of his foresight.

According to Fai, a typical Kashmiri has lost faith in Indian democracy and refers to it as “sham democracy.”

Syed Ali Geelani refused talks with India for years

He cited an article from The Washington Post that stated, “Over the years, he (Geelani) had constantly stated no to any talks with New Delhi, saying that “India can’t be trusted unless it calls Kashmir a disputed territory, demilitarizes the region, and releases political prisoners for a meaningful dialogue.”

“Let us all recommit to Geelani Sahib’s vision and continue the struggle in unity with complete faith in Allah (Subhanahu wa Taala), to whom victory and failure belong. May Allah grant Syed Ali Geelani’s soul a place in Jannatul Firdous! “Amen,” Fai concluded his statement.
