Families to Contest Against Each Other on February 8 Polls in Northwest Pakistan

PESHAWAR: Election fever has gripped Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province Pakistan, where political stalwarts started addressing public gatherings to convince voters while many have floated advertisements in different newspapers for publicity.

The print media including journals, newspapers, and weekly magazines started receiving heavy advertising orders for polls-related publicity and earning a lot of profits.

Javeed Nasim Khan, a candidate of NA-32 Peshawar said that advertisements are an effective tool to project political party manifestos and election programs to attract voters besides saving time. He added that social media were the inexpensive way of publicity while English and Urdu dailies also received heavy advertising orders during the current days.

Mashallah Jahangi, a main hub of advertisement business booked for heavy advertising orders from the different candidates and political parties from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The advertisers are seen very busy till late at night to fulfil candidates’, political parties and their supporter’s demands. The politically fertile Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will witness a tight electoral contest among candidates in different constituencies.

The close family relatives are running for national and provincial assembly seats in KP and accelerated public gatherings and meetings.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-Parliamentarians (PTI-P) head Pervez Khattak and his sons were also contesting from Nowshera district, KP. The former Chief Minister’s children will face off against their uncle Liaqat Khattak on two provincial assembly seats in their hometown. Liaqat Khattak is a younger brother of Pervez Khattak.

Pervez Khattak himself is also contesting for NA-33 and PK-87 and PK-88 on his newly founded political party ticket. His son-in-law Dr Imran Khattak will also contest for NA-34 and PK-89 on February 8 elections.

Pervez Khattak’s brother Liaqat Khattak will contest the elections on a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) ticket from PK-87. Similarly, Liaqat Khattak’s son Ahad Khattak will go up against Pervez Khattak for PK-88. The other strong candidates are Ikhtiar Wali Khan (PML-N), Awami National Party’s (ANP) and Jamshed Khan  In Swabi, former MNA Usman Khan Tarakai will contest against his nephew for NA-20.

In Chitral district of KP, two brothers Shehzada Iftikharuddin and Shehzada Pervez are contesting the upcoming elections from different political parties with the former contesting on a PML-N ticket for NA-1 while the latter will compete for PK-2 on PTI-P’s ticket. Veteran politician Ghulam Ahmed Bilour is contesting from NA 32 Peshawar. According to APP, the election drive is heating ahead of the February 9 elections and candidates approach large people to get maximum support ahead of the Day.
