ISLAMABAD: Pakistani families have come together to celebrate Eidul Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan. The three-day festival is a time of joy, reflection, and unity for Muslims around the world.

As Eid celebrations are underway across Pakistan, families across Pakistan cleaned their homes and bought new clothes, sweets, and gifts for their loved ones.

On the first day of Eidul Fitr, after offering the Eid prayers, families, relatives, and friends traditionally gather at the family head’s house to exchange greetings, share gifts, and feast on delicious food.

The festivities are not complete without the traditional Eidi, in which young children line up in front of each adult family member to receive gifts of money.

“We teach our children the values of generosity and kindness and to interact and socialize, which makes them eager to participate in Eid prayers and celebrate it,” said Uzma Shahzad, a mother of three from Lahore.

“I love taking my children to the mosque and giving them a little envelope full of money as a giveaway for the other adults and children in the mosque. It’s a beautiful way to spread happiness and positivity,” she added.

In Karachi, Nadeem Ahmed celebrates Eid by gathering at his uncle’s house with his cousins and their children. “After the Eid prayers, we head to our uncle’s house, where we exchange gifts and eat traditional Pakistani food like biryani, kebabs, and halwa puri,” he said. “We also give Eidi to our nieces and nephews, which is always a highlight for them.”

In the northwestern city of Peshawar, Ayesha Khan and her family celebrate Eid by visiting their relatives and friends. “We have a big breakfast after Eid prayers, which includes sheer khurma, a sweet dish made with milk and vermicelli, and other traditional Pakistani dishes,” she said.

“Then we visit our relatives and friends to exchange gifts and Eidi. It’s a wonderful way to strengthen our bonds and connect with our loved ones.”

Charitable acts across Pakistan on Eidul Fitr

The spirit of Eid is also seen in charitable acts across Pakistan. Many families donate to the less fortunate, especially to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We make sure to give zakat and fitrana to those in need,” said Imran Ali from Islamabad.

“It’s important to remember the less fortunate during this time of celebration and to spread joy and happiness to as many people as possible.”

As the festivities come to a close, families across Pakistan will cherish the memories and look forward to the next Eid.
