ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Thursday that February 8 will be observed as a public holiday in light of the upcoming elections.
A notification confirming this decision has been released. The purpose of this public holiday is to facilitate citizens in exercising their right to vote. This announcement means that Pakistanis will have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process without any hindrance.
Additionally, with Kashmir Day coinciding on a Monday, citizens will enjoy a consecutive pair of public holidays during the same week. It’s noteworthy that during the previous general elections, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) also declared a holiday on the polling day to ensure the smooth conduct of the electoral process.
SCHOOLS CLOSURE
The interim Punjab cabinet has already granted approval to maintain the closure of educational institutions throughout the province for the duration of the 2024 elections.
“In view of the upcoming general elections on 8th February, Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from Feb 6th to Feb 9th,” caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a post on X.
