Federal Cabinet Approves Deployment of Armed Forces for Election Security

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Tuesday unanimously approved deployment of Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces’ personnel for maintaining peace and security during the upcoming polls.

The Cabinet, which met in Islamabad with Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar in the chair, accorded the approval on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior.

It has been decided these security personnel will be responsible for polling stations and sensitive areas and will also serve as a rapid response force.

Regarding proposals related to the restructuring and digitization of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), PM Kakar directed the formation of an inter-ministerial committee, headed by the Minister of Finance, to review the proposed FBR reforms.

The Committee members include federal ministers for accountability, , commerce, energy, foreign affairs, law and justice, and information technology. The committee will present its recommendations in the next meeting.

Financial matters in cabinet meeting

During the meeting, the detailed proposals for, improving the tax-GDP ratio, increasing tax revenue, and enhancing the administrative framework of the FBR were presented. A committee, led by the Minister of Treasury, was set up to oversee the implementation of these proposals and will present further recommendations in the upcoming meeting.

Based on the recommendation of the Ministry of National Health, it appointed representatives for medical colleges and private healthcare establishments in the registration board of the Islamabad Health Regulatory Authority.

Likewise, a search committee, headed by the Minister of National Health Services, was set up for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University Islamabad.
