ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested 16 persons, including three Assistant Director of Passports and Immigration directorate and four officers of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), for their involvement in a scheme to facilitate Afghan nationals with Pakistani documents.
According to an FIA spokesperson, the arrests were made as part of a concerted effort to bust an international racket involved in the illegal issuance of Pakistani passports and identity cards to Afghan nationals.
The operation, conducted by the FIA Anti-Corruption Circle in Islamabad, resulted in the arrest of key persons including three assistant directors, four agents and five Afghan nationals involved in the illegal scheme.
In another operation, the FIA also targeted persons in NADRA suspected of preparing identity cards based on fraudulent documents. Four NADRA officers and agents were arrested in the operation.
According to the spokesman, the operation was carried out on the basis of a complaint by NADRA and the Islamabad Directorate of Passport and Immigration, during which a total of 16 accused were arrested.
An FIA spokesman stressed that the investigation remains active, with more raids and arrests expected as authorities work to nab more people involved in the illegal issuance of Pakistani documents to Afghan nationals.
